Feeling like a jerk and taking things day by day…

Odd title for a blog post?

I had to put something. Lately I have been feeling like a bit of a jerk. I have been meeting so many wonderful people and planning on giving them all that I possibly can. Unfortunately, I just haven’t been able to. I am a firm believer in Quality VS Quantity. Since the Living Social deal came out it’s really been the opposite. Everyone (all 299 and some others on the side) wants their shoot asap and I’ve been giving all I’ve got to give… I am suffering from a bit of burn out and I feel like when I’m tired my creativity suffers. That is definitely not something I want to affect my shoots. I have still managed to pull through but I feel like I have shown up to some of my shoots looking like a zombie and a little spaced out.

What many people don’t realize is I actually had two deals run on Living Social… Yes two. (WTF was I thinking? lol) The first one was at the end of July. I will never forget when  saw that a couple people had bought the deal. I thought YAY!! New clients! When the first deal ended I had sold about 140 something. That was pretty amazing to me. Living Social contacted me and asked if I was up for running my deal again on the main page. I thought sure why not? I thought that maybe I will add  few more people to the list( I’m so naive!!!).  After all I was sure that all those people that were interested would have bought it the first round. Boy was I wrong. When the second deal ran in August  I actually sold more than the original. I was overwhelmed. I ended up with 299 Living Social Family Deals and many more bookings on the side for other things.  Even though everyone is getting a pretty good deal it’s still worth it to me as a small business. The exposure has been incredible. I just wish I was able to give more and be more on top of things. At this point I am not taking anymore bookings till after October 15th because I’m either so busy or too tired to function (I have to make time for sleep).

I’m happy about the whole thing though. I would rather be busting my ass doing what I love, rather than sitting in an office doing tasks I don’t like and hating my life. (Not dissing any office jobs… I just don’t thrive in that type of environment. Stay tuned for a future blog post about that. My past…) I’ve just been feeling a bit bad about not being able to keep up with emails/calls and delivering photos.

I know what it feels like when you have your photo taken by a photographer and you can’t wait to see the pictures! I’ve been there. To be honest I feel the same way when I take a photo of someone else. I can’t wait to get home, upload the photos and take a look.

So for all the people that bought the deal in round one I really appreciate your patience while waiting for your photos. I get e-mails daily asking when they will be ready. I know you really want to see them. I want you to see them too… They just aren’t ready yet. I’ve been shooting so much it has left me no time for editing. For those that bought round two… I really appreciate your patience while you wait for me to get back to you. (This could all be different depending on when you contacted me).

I feel as though when you try to please everyone, you actually end up pleasing no one. So I am working on finding a balance. Patience from everyone is very much appreciated.

I think that’s enough for one blog post 🙂

Talk to you all again soon!

How about another picture?? This is one from a few weeks back. An engagement session for an unnamed couple 🙂

  • Oh Kim! So happy that you got the exposure you deserved from the sale, and I hope that things work out for you soon. I can only imagine how busy you are, and I hope that all of your clients are doing their best to be patient and understanding! 🙂

We’re looking forward to our session in October!ReplyCancel
