Sheila & Shawn- Wedding

Sheila & Shawn’s Backyard Country Wedding

June 9th, 2012 – Quesnel, BC

I have known both Sheila and Shawn for quite some time and if you have read previous blog posts of mine you may remember seeing their Maternity shoot I did last year. I was honoured when Sheila asked me to be part of her bridal party for her upcoming wedding. Then came the opportunity to photograph their wedding. I was on double duty that day! Bridesmaid and Photographer… and this was the first wedding I have ever photographed. I have no experience photographing weddings. For all the photographers out there I know you are probably thinking I am completely crazy. You are right. Who decides to be in a bridal party and photograph a wedding at the same time? Well… Me. I am one of those people who is determined to do it all. I did the best I could wearing my bridesmaid dress 🙂

The morning started out with all of us ladies & bride guys getting ready at the Sandman Hotel. Sheila looked absolutely stunning in her Maggie Sottero dress. I cannot even describe how stunning… You will need to check out the photos below to see what I mean :). From the hotel we headed out to meet the guys at Shya’s farm(bridesmaid) to take some photos. I first headed out to the field to snap some shots of the guys and set up Shawn for the first look. Sheila and Shawn decided they were going to do a first look to avoid that gap between their ceremony and reception. It was very beautiful and unique because they included their children Shaleena & Ohlund. There was a small group of llamas/alpacas (not sure which ones lol) running around. They were so curious when they saw the bride and groom they kept inching closer to see what was going on. I’m glad we had a chance to shoot there as the farm had a nice rustic feel to it. After the farm shoot we headed to Shawn’s parents house for the ceremony and reception. As I stepped out of my car I could smell bacon. They had a potluck pig roast at their reception (the food was delicious!). Sheila and Shawn’s wedding is proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a fun and fabulous wedding. The bride, groom along with family and friends managed to pull off an amazing day. The day represented everything it should have: Their love and commitment to each other and to their family. They decided to write their own personalized vows. I was having a difficult time focusing my lens as my eyes were tearing over. The night was filled with great music and lots of dancing.

Sheila and Shawn it was a wonderful to be a part of your special day! Thank you for all the memories and the chance to photograph your wedding. Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness. xoxo

Sheila and Shawn were about to cut the cake when Sheila shoved her hand into the cake and smashed it in Shawn’s face. Glad I caught this moment!

I didn’t take this photo below, but I wanted to include a group shot in the blog. This is one of the few photos I am in lol. I am the one in the teal dress on the far right. Thank you to Shya’s husband Gabe for taking this picture of everyone.
