When you combine a magical place like Tofino & a beautiful couple having a wedding… It’s nothing short of magical and magic is exactly what took place last weekend at Sarah & Matt’s Wedding.
For the past few years I’ve had the please of collaborating on many photo shoots with Sarah Mulder Jewelry. When she told me she was getting married last year and that the plan was to get married at Middle Beach Lodge in Tofino- I was sooooooo excited for so many reason… 1. I am obsessed with beach weddings (they are hands down always my favourite. Seriously- If you’re getting married on the beach call me). 2. I got married in Tofino, so it’s a really special place to me and I’ve been wanting to shoot there for awhile. 3. Having the opportunity to photograph such a special day for someone you know is truly an honour. I could go on and on…
I travelled to Tofino Mid week with my husband Matt in preparation for the big day. I loved having the opportunity to spend time time with Sarah and Matt before the wedding day. We went on an adventure the day before the wedding traveling up to Frank Island (her uncle owns property there and it’s a special spot that Sarah spent time at growing up). We did some engagement style photos that day there and at Middle Beach (these will be featured in a future post- so stay tuned for those).
Middle Beach lodge is a rustic resort nested upon a small cliff overlooking the pacific ocean. It’s set behind tall trees. One of the best things about this place is it has it’s own private beach! It’s a cozy place that offers fresh warm baked cookies in the evenings and warm tea whenever you may need it. The lodge is quiet, peaceful and really the perfect spot for an intimate wedding. The views are amazing and when you’re not looking out the large windows, there are many books available to read if you want to relax.
Sarah spent the morning of the wedding getting ready with her girlfriends. She looked absolutely beautiful in her custom made 2 piece lace wedding dress. Sarah and Matt decided to keep things simple with their wedding plans and chose not to have a bridal party. They did a first look around lunch time and exchanged the custom engraved rings they had made for each other before the ceremony. It was very special for them to have this time alone before the wedding (besides me and my camera ;). We spent some time taking photos before the ceremony and then they had some downtime to enjoy time with friends before the ceremony. As each guest headed down the path to the beach they were given a rock by the couples nephew. The rocks were then placed at the ceremony site to make a circle. Sarah & Matt exchanged vows on the beach inside the circle as family & friends surrounded them. Her uncle did an amazing job playing the music for the ceremony.
There were so many special DIY details that made the day come together. Sarah’s girlfriends hand crafted her bouquet the morning of the wedding. Sarah her own necklace and bracelet. Sarah’s mom spent countless hours baking the most delicious cookies for the dessert table (I am a cookie monst….eerr… connoisseur and they were very tasty!). Sarah’s mom also helped her with finding the antiques incorporated in the decor, the table runners and floral centrepieces. The couples wedding rings were made locally in Vancouver by Foe & Dear along with Sarah’s earrings. Sarah & Matt- Thank you so much for having me capture your wedding! I’m so excited that after 10 years together, you’ve made this official. You are a wonderful couple and I look forward to seeing where life takes you next 🙂
